Workshop Training Institute

ImageThe Workshop Training Institute provides training in five Technical and two Non-Technical Trades. Basic Combatant Training and education is imparted at the 1(T) Squadron, while specialised training for the Technical and Non-Technical Trades are conducted at the 2(T) and 3(T) Squadrons respectively.

Training courses are conducted for the following Technical and Non-Technical Trades:

Technical Trades

  • Workshop Fitter (B)
    The Workshop Training Institute prepares ab-initio trainees for the responsibility of Workshop Fitter (B), by training them in metallurgy, heat treatment, material management and various other manufacturing processes. The training lasts for a period of eighty weeks.

  • Workshop Fitter (C)
    Airmen assigned to the Workshop Fitter (C) Trades are trained to undertake structural repair and maintenance of aircraft among other production processes. The period of training for this trade is eighty weeks.

  • Plant Maintenance Fitter (M)
    The ab-initio trainees inducted to undertake the task of Plant Maintenance Fitters (M), are trained to carry out first and second line servicing as well as operation and maintenance of aircraft ground equipment. They are trained for a period of eighty weeks before they are ready to assume their duty as airmen of the Indian Air Force.

  • Safety Equipment Worker
    Ab-initio trainees are imparted training for a period of sixty six weeks to undertake the operation and maintenance of safety equipment for all types of aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

Non-Technical Training

  • Air Field Safety Operator
    The Workshop Training Institute prepares of ab-initio trainees for the task of Air Field Safety Operator. They are trained to operate the different systems of Air Traffic Control Tower and the Air Field.

  • Meteorological Assistant
    Ab-initio trainees assigned to the Meteorological Assistant Trades are trained to carry out weather observation and undertake maintenance of meteorological instruments.
