Non-Technical Trades

ImageIf you join the Air Force as an airman in non-technical trades, you will provide invaluable assistance and support to the various functions of the Indian Air Force. From weather forecasting to maintenance of records and files, your contribution is seminal to the effective functioning of the Air Force and all its branches.

The Non-Technical Trades have been grouped under the following Combatant Groups. Click on any to know about the various trades under each.

Combatant Group 'X'
The following are the various non-technical trades under Group 'X':

Education Instructor
As an Education Instructor, you will conduct classes and examinations. You are also trained to undertake the maintenance and administration of libraries, information rooms and schools.

Combatant Group 'Y'
The following are the various non-technical trades under Group 'Y':

ImageGround Training Instructor
Undertaking the job of Ground Training Instructor, you will train personnel on drill, parade, handling of arms and physical exercise. You are also responsible for organisation and conduct of games and sports activities.

 

Air Field Safety Operator
As an Air Field Safety Operator, your job involves the operation of different systems of the Air Traffic Control Tower and the Air Field. You also provide assistance to the Air Traffic Control Officer in the discharge of his functions.

Telephonist / Radio/ Telephone Operator
In the capacity of Telephonist /Radio/Telephone Operator, you are required to maintain telephone services. You also undertake the operation and carry out servicing of other communication equipment, VHF sets, direction finding equipment, Trunk Switch Board, Field Telephones and their multiple switchboards.

ImageIndian Air Force Police
In the position of IAF Police, your responsibilities involve assuming of police duties and investigation of offences and minor pranks. You are also in charge of maintenance of security.

Clerk General Duties
As Clerk General Duties, you are responsible for maintenance of records, files and correspondence.

Equipment Assistant
As Equipment Assistant, you are involved in the procurement, storage, handling, issue and accounting of all service stores.

ImageClerk Pay Accounting
In the capacity of Clerk Pay Accounting, you are involved in the preparation and maintenance of documents related to public funds. You also perform similar activities with respect to the pay and allowances of all personnel and the accounts of items purchased out of public funds.

Medical Assistants
Operating as a Medical Assistant, you are made familiar with nursing and first aid. You are also involved in the management of medical stores, dispensaries and wards.

Mechanical Transport Drivers
In the post of Mechanical Transport Drivers, you are required to drive and maintain all types of vehicles. You will be trained to assume responsibility of the care and maintenance of tyres, tubes and batteries.

Aircraft Hands General Duties
This job involves maintenance of the fire fighting section. It also requires that you ensure the upkeep of hygiene of Air Force Camps by maintaining cleanliness and proper sanitation.

Catering Assistant
As a Catering Assistant, you are responsible for the supply and accounting of rations.

Combatant Group 'Z'
The following are the various non-technical trades under Group 'Z':

Musicians
Airmen in the capacity of musicians make up the Air Force Band. If you join the Air Force as a musician, you will be trained to play different musical instruments.
